Site visit near oil field of Patos- Marinza area
CRCD Centre along with representatives of EDEN Center and a group of journalists that participated in the online course and a three-day seminar on investigative journalism techniques within the REA Project on 29th May, 2014 attended the site visit of oil extracting of Bankers Petroleum Company.
Bankers Petroleum Company operates in Patos- Marinza since 2008 and the environmental and social impacts are one of the primary concerns of affected residents. They claimed for disrespecting the appropriate standards during the work and raised their voice to benefit some investments which will improve the quality of their lives.
During the site visit, the working group was welcomed into the premises and offices of Bankers Petroleum where was introduced with the achievements and challenges that this company is facing every day. According to the employees, there is still work to be done but also, it should be appreciated the efforts and investments made until now by this company, emphasizing the responsibilities that the local units should have.
Also, they visited the Public Information Center, observed the internal infrastructure of the area where is done oil extraction, saw the treatment plant and waste oil recycling, the equipment for air and water quality monitoring, the modern equipment to capture and destruction via burning of H2S and the wells monitoring underground water up to 10m.
Also, the working group was headed to a meeting with the employee of the Department of Health and Worker’s Safety for preventive measures and facilities that Bankers Company offered on their service.
