A follow-up, three-day seminar in Vlora
The follow-up three-day Seminar “Environmental Investigative Journalism” has ended successfully on 28th May 2014, in the framework of REA Project “Reporting the Environment in Albania”, organized by CRCD and financed by European Union.
REA project aims to improve the standards of reporting on the environment by the media in Albania, in the context of the country’s aspiration to join the European Union, by providing to a group of twelve journalists from different parts of Albania a one year-long training program that will equip them with knowledge, skills and contacts to report on environmental issues in a competent and engaging manner.
The seminar was a continuity of the on-line course organized by CRCD, with an “Investigative Techniques of Environmental Journalism” thematic, and was followed by more than 40 journalists from six countries of Albania.
15 journalists participated in the seminar, under the guidance of national and international trainers and environmental experts from Media Organization of BEZK and Czech Republic. The discussed topics referred to environmental issues in the context of cross-border cooperation in Europe and Balkan, echo-journalism in Czech Republic, editing policies, financing media and civil society organizations that observe environmental situation, access to information, the problems in implementing informative legislation, improvement of the news world in which are addressed specific issues such as energy efficiency, utilization of basins etc.
The seminar was concluded with a roundtable discussion about addressing the environmental issues of the year in media, the assistance that trained journalists will receive for reporting on the environment and for writing and publishing the articles in national and international media.
Round-Table offered to “An Eye for the Environment” and “ECIM” Networking, supported by SENIOR-A Programme, the opportunity to present their projects to journalists, such as environmental survey in different areas of the Patos-Marinze Project where Bankers Petroleum Ltd operates, and Hydropower in National Park of Shebenik-Jablanica.
On 29th May, the groups of journalists visited three different places: oil fields in Patos-Marinza area and Bankers Petroleum Ltd, Sharra landfill in Tirana, Water Treatment Plant in Vlora. Such training cases, assisted from international trainers will help the journalists in writing investigative articles to bring in public attention the reality of the environmental situation in Albania.
